General
Where are you located?
We are located at 517 Gaffney Rd. Fairbanks, Alaska sandwiched between Kodiak Jacks and Coin King Laundry and across the street from the old MarketPlace Carrs.
How is LCA governed?
LCA is governed by an independent, volunteer, Board of Directors.
How do you fund your agency?
Through our Forget Me Not Bookstore, individual donations of monies, stocks and bonds, endowment fund, grants and fundraisers.
How can I become a volunteer?
Come in, fill out a volunteer application and let us sit down with you to see what area would best fit your interests. For more information about volunteering and the areas you can volunteer, check out our three volunteer pages: Volunteer: General; Volunteer: Tutor; and Volunteer: Bookstore.


Programs
Could you help me learn English?
Yes, we have several opportunities to assist you.
1. English classes from beginning to more advanced.
2. We also have a one-on-one Tutoring Program
Can I get help to get a GED? Do you administer GED tests?
Yes, we have GED Assistance with Math or Advanced English preparation. However, we do not administer GED tests. The Adult Learning Program administers the test.
Do you have Citizenship class?
Yes, we have classes to help prepare for your Citizenship Test.
How can I become a tutor?

Do you have tutoring for children?
Yes. We are developing a school age program for K-12.  One-on-one tutoring can be requested by parents either to take place at an after school program or at the Literacy Council.   Adult volunteer tutors agree to meet with individual students for a minimum of two hours a week for six weeks to work on areas highlighted by teachers and parents.
How can I get my child in this program?
You will need to keep in touch with your child’s teacher and request a referral.
What does ESL mean?
The letters ESL means English as a Second Language.
What classes do you have? When are they offered? How much do they cost?

How do I sign up for the classes?
You can stop by the Literacy Council of Alaska or call and we will assist you in signing up.
I want to take a class, but I have kids. Do you have childcare?
No, we do not have childcare but we do have a wonderful preschool for your children. Learn about the Even Start Family Literacy program and ask about it before signing up for the class.
Do you give computers to people?
Yes, LCA is part of the Microsoft Authorized Refurbishing Program. This program allows LCA to receive donated computers, refurbish and reformat them and give them to people and organizations in the community at a minimal fee.
How do I get one of these computers?
We invite you to come in and fill out a computer request form.

How many books are for sale?
Forget-Me-Not Books has over 40,000 books for sale.  The books are in great shape, cleaned, organized, and priced to sell.
What is the price of a regular book?
Our regular books are $2.00.
What volunteer jobs are available in the bookstore?
