Cross Age Tutoring Program
This year, LCA's Cross Age Tutoring Program will offer a three week session in June and a three week session in July. Each session will focus on critical thinking and skills building, both for the students and their tutors. Youth between the ages of 14 and 18 are invited to apply to participate in this summer's program as tutors. Tutors and students will meet a few days a week from 9am-12pm each day and work with a structured curriculum.
We are looking for volunteer tutors who are interested in developing leadership skills, gaining work experience, learning to build a cooperative team and helping a first through third grader increase foundation skills. Tutoring provides great experience for your resume. If you are motivated, like to work with young children, and have strong academic skills, please consider volunteering at LCA.
We are currently accepting applications for summer Cross Age tutors.
Children who attend Title I Schools and are in first, second, or third grade are eligible for Cross Age Tutoring. Due to limited space, we ask that teachers refer those students they feel will benefit most from this program. School counselors and teachers are given enrollment packets in April. If you are a parent or guardian and would like to sign your child up for tutoring, please contact your child's teacher about getting the process started. Please keep in mind that despite going through training, these teenagers do not have the skills and experience needed to work with children with developmental delays or serious behavioral problems.
