Annual LCA Fundraising Events
- Biz Bee
MARK YOUR CALANDER! Biz Bee will be held Wednesday, February 13th, 2008 at the Westmark Hotel! A corporate spelling bee, planned and sponsored by the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.
The event is able to raise $20,000+ for the Literacy Council. Held at the
Westmark Gold Room during February of each year, the event is well publicized and attended.
The format consists of business sponsored teams of three spellers who may be employees or
members of a sponsored nonprofit or educational organization. The teams compete against
24 other teams in an elimination-style spelling bee.
- Charity Walk
This fundraiser is organized by the Visitors Industry, and the appeal is a very
straight forward pledge-asked fundraiser. Participants pledge money to participate in
a 3k "graze." That is, food is served along the route.
- Golden Mile
This race takes place before the beginning of the Golden Days Parade. The idea
of a former board member, Jim Bradner, participants run this race and earn money
for literacy through pledges.
