About Gals Read
Gals Read is a program that was started shortly after Guys Read became so successful in helping boys ready for fun. Research has shown that boys in elementary school often lose interest in reading books for pleasure and do not consider reading to be a masculine activity. When Guys Read was so successful that the gals started to feel left out we started recruiting gal readers and started Gals Read. Why shouldn't girls in elementary school get to take part in such a program as well? Can't they benefit from positive, literate female role models? The answer: a resounding "Yes!"
The Gals Read program brings volunteer readers into 18 different elementary schools twice a week spanning three weeks in March. Women read from books, handpicked by LCA staff, to appeal to 4th grade girls.
