LCA: A Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher
CHANGING LIVES THROUGH LITERACY – A GREAT DAY FOR ALASKA
The Literacy Council of Alaska has been accepted as a Community Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher (MAR). As a Community MAR the Literacy Council of Alaska will have the privilege of installing Microsoft 2000 or XP on used computers to be given away to Alaskans who wouldn’t otherwise have access to such technology.
The Community MAR program was created to increase the number of usable PCs available to nonprofits, schools, and low-income families across the globe by reducing the cost of software to refurbishers. The Community MAR program also benefits the environment by giving new life to a significant number of computers that could otherwise be destined for landfills.
The Literacy Council of Alaska offers basic computer training classes and tutoring for those who receive a refurbished computer.
LCA accepts donations of Pentium 3 computers (or faster) along with printers, monitors, and keyboards. Every donated computer is reformatted, that is, all hard drives are erased completely before they are refurbished and given out. There is a $20 processing fee for computer recipient.
LCA has take a great step toward providing computers for so many people of Alaska. The nearest Community MAR is more than 600 miles away from Fairbanks (located in Douglas, AK)! LCA continues to think creatively and progressively as we seek to change lives through literacy!
