Job Summary: 

The Literacy Council of Alaska seeks a part-time development director to head our fundraising and development operations. This position reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for supporting the mission of the Literacy Council of Alaska. This professional will create and oversee the implementation of a comprehensive development plan. This role involves organizing fundraising initiatives, working with board members, coordinating annual fundraisers, and building relationships with donors, staff and volunteers.

  • Plan, execute and evaluate fundraising campaigns and activities, including major giving, planned giving strategies, and endowment fund donors

  • Steward long-term relationships with existing donors and supporters

  • Design, implement, and coordinate a stewardship program that promotes interaction with and recognition of donors at all levels

  • Make direct, face-to-face solicitations

  • Expand online giving platform and online donations

  • Use technology to track donors and prospects

  • Coordinate fundraising and donor stewardship events

  • Communicate fundraising goals throughout the organization and equip team members to help meet them

  • Recruit, train, and support key volunteers to assist in advancement efforts

  • Manage the budget for fundraising activities

  • Follow fundraising trends and best practices

  • Create solicitation materials for fundraising, and evaluate their efficacy

  • Superb written, verbal and interpersonal skills

  • Time management skills and flexibility with job duties

  • Expertise in software and tools for fundraising

  • Creative, self-starter attitude

  • Diplomacy and ability to navigate community relationships

  • Donor and volunteer service mentality; belief in the mission of LCA

  • Organized and inspiring team leader

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 3+ years’ experience in nonprofit fundraising

  • Proven expertise and success in donor relations and fundraising
