Overview:
The Literacy Council of Alaska is looking for part-time instructor to assist our students in reaching their educational and vocational goals with an emphasis on high school equivalency attainment, adult basic education, and workforce development. Our ideal candidate is an experienced teacher or tutor with a flexible and collaborative mindset. This position will have the opportunity to assist students in a classroom setting and through distance education. On-the-job training is available for candidates who are not prepared to teach all subjects required, with thorough training and support from the start.

Job Duties:
Instruction & Instruction Preparation (90%)
Instruct individuals in a classroom setting, including distance deliveryÂ
Monitor participants' needs in order to remediate educational deficiencies
Prepare instructional plans for students on the study hall schedule each day
Collaborate with our small team of program staff to offer excellent services to students
Work with students to develop and pursue career and post-secondary pathways; make referrals to partner programs as necessary
Assess program students using state mandated assessments
Instruction Preparation (10%)
Willingness to learn the ins and outs of program curriculum
Work with other instructors to improve and implement new teaching strategies
Find resources and professional development to share with team
Administration (10%)
Regularly update the Program Director with attendance records, student progress, and test readiness
Attend program and agency staff meetings
Update and maintain the confidentiality of records, portfolios, and student progress reports
Program reception, student intake, and student orientation
Consult with Program Director to determine educational plans of action for each participant
Other duties as assigned
Job Skills and Qualifications:
Confident or willing to learn teaching all four GED test subjects (Science, Social Studies, English, and Math)
Create a classroom environment that is welcoming, positive, and motivatingÂ
Average or above average digital literacy
Must be able to pass a background checkÂ
Flexible and collaborative
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in Adult Education or with non-traditional students
College degree in Education or related field; or equivalent experience
6 months+ volunteering with LCA programs
This position is supervised by the AE Program Director
$20-$21/hr @ 20-30 hrs/wk
