Overview:
The Literacy Council of Alaska is looking for a Rural Student Instructor to be the primary contact for all rural students in the Interior and North Slope regions, provide remote and in-person GED tutoring, AAE testing, and coordinate with rural community partners. Our ideal candidate is a teacher or tutor comfortable with multiple subjects who is innovative, culturally responsive, and able to travel occasionally. This position will have the opportunity to make process improvements, create strong connections between communities, and contribute to the mission of literacy for all.
*While traveling, the Rural Student Instructor may work outside normal business hours.*

Job Duties:
Outreach (75%)
Provide 1/1 tutoring for students over the phone, through video calls, and in-person
Find and distribute appropriate online and physical study materials
Split time between in-person and online tutoring
Instruction (15%)
Make and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with community partners in rural villages, including schools, Native Corporations, Village Councils, and other community organizations
Plan and execute travel to villages in the Interior and North Slope regions, both on and off the road system
Distribute information about the Adult Education programs to community partners
Advocate for rural student needs and help find funding sources with Director
Reporting (10%)
Track attendance for students
Track the Rural Student budget in collaboration with the GED Program Director
Prepare weekly reports for GED Program Director on student progress
Job Skills and Qualifications:
Minimum of two years experience working in an educational setting
Organized and able to work independently
Able to travel to remote locations (flying and driving)
Has an understanding of Alaska Native cultures and the barriers Alaska Native people experience in the educational sphere
Preferred Qualifications:
Has worked or volunteered with LCA for 6+ months
Working toward or has a degree in Education or related field
Experience working in rural Alaska
Supervised by the Director of GED Programs
Starting Salary: $19 per/hr @ 30 hrs/wk, with potential for remote work
