Overview:
The Literacy Council of Alaska is looking for a Summer School-Age Program Assistant to help with daily programming, and assist in planning field trips & family nights. Our ideal candidate is someone interested in being a teacher or child care provider who is innovative, culturally responsive, and flexible. This position will have the opportunity to make improvements, create strong connections between families, and support the Literacy Council of Alaska's mission of changing lives through Literacy.
Job Duties:
Instruction (70%)
Safely supervise students, assist with snack time, and handle transition from school & home
Creative & flexible with the daily schedule
Assist Instructor with summer programming and help participants achieve learning goals
Create a fun and safe learning environment for kids
Outreach (20%)
Communicates and collaborates with instructor to understand student needs
Coordinates, plans, and/or develops field trips & family activities with after school coordinator and instructor
Account Payable (30%)
Collecting from staff
Sending/receiving to/from account
Copying applicable invoices for grant reports
Mailing checks
Job Skills and Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Basic understanding of youth development
Ability to stand for long periods and speak to large groups
Readily recall facts and details, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure
Positive and excited to work with kids every day
Must be able to pass a background check
Experience working in a school or instructional environment as a paid position or as a volunteer
Preferred Qualifications:
College coursework in education or early childhood education
Prior experience working with LCA programs
6 months or more experience in a professional child care setting or a professional teaching position
This position is supervised by the Afterschool CoordinatorStarting
Salary: $16 per/hr @ 20 hrs/wk
