ABOUT US
The Literacy Council of Alaska was started in 1973 with the same Mission as we have today: To change lives through literacy for people of all ages in Fairbanks and the Interior!
-
English as a Second Language: We tutor and teach classes at every level for adults learning to speak English. We also provide citizenship classes.
-
GED: LCA offers GED classes in reading and writing, math, social studies, and science. We prepare our students to pass the GED test, with nearly 90 graduates a year!
-
Pathways: Transitional education for youth ages 16-24. Those working on education are also provided work experience as they prepare to enter the work force.
-
After School Program: Year round tutoring and programming for the youth who live in subsidized housing at Birch Park near downtown Fairbanks.
-
"LevelUp!" School Age Tutoring: We have started tutoring middle school students who need additional help preparing for high school.
-
Book Recycling: Annually we provide 10,000-20,000 books to organizations and individuals across Alaska. This creates a print rich environment and ensures that people have books!
-
Forget-Me-Not Books: Our great used bookstore that provides books at great prices and revenue to sustain the programs at LCA.
The friends and partners of LCA make Fairbanks a wonderful place to change lives through literacy.
Thank You!
