Bookstore Update from our Executive Director
To our loyal customers,
We wanted to give an update on the bookstore after a whirlwind first few months of being open at our new location. Thank you to everyone who came out for our Grand Opening event! We hope you had a great time!
We want to address the big elephant in the room–book donations! The pause on donations has been MUCH more extended than we initially expected it would be after our move, and we apologize for that. Our community is incredibly generous with book donations, and we are thankful for your ongoing understanding through this prolonged pause. One of the biggest contributors to the pause on accepting donations has been moving into our new space and all the unexpected challenges that have come with that. When we start taking donations again, we want to be able to do it well, and we need the right plan and personnel to be able to do that. We’re almost there, but we’re going to need your help. Look for a post next week with our plan to slowly reopen book donations at Forget-Me-Not Books!
The other huge contributor to the delay in donations is that we are again without a fearless leader! For the second time this summer, we are looking for a new Bookstore Manager. The ideal Bookstore Manager at Forget-Me-Not Books is someone who is great with people management, has an aptitude for process development and improvement, and is passionate about books AND the Literacy Council! If someone you know fits that description, please send them our way! Filling this position will support our capacity to accept and process donations. It will also help us expand our literacy initiatives to get more books in more hands in the Interior.
Forget-Me-Not Books has been a staple of the Fairbanks community since 2005. From day one, we have sold good books at a good price for a great cause. As we continue to do that, we need your help. We’re counting on your continued support, patronage, and cooperation as we press on into the future of Forget-Me-Not Books and the Literacy Council of Alaska!
